Read Mark Steyn's piece on Iraq, one year on.

The trouble with many Canadians is that they dislike Americans and hate George Bush so they go against what America is for without thinking the whole thing through.

Perhaps, but that alone will not keep Harper out of office. To think that Canadians are focused purely on the military decision in Iraq is foolhardy and myopic.

Martin has already used the term Reformer in reference to Harper. That's a dirty word to many eastern, especially, and possibly a majority, of Canadians.

I think Martin will try to scare Canadians of the thought of Harper in power. The attack will be that he will dismantle health care, he would have got us into the war with the US (although martin may have done so too), and that Harper will alienate Quebec. The more I think of it - the more scared I get - I love it when we give the finger to the US - thats the only thing I'm gonna miss about Cretien.

I think these could be pretty effective arguments.
