I agree with your take on Al-Qaeda. Until recently a vastly superior military could insure that rogue nations or elements could be defeated or at least reasonably contained. This is not the case with organizations like
Al-Qaeda and the more loosely they are associated the more difficult they are to counter. The success that Al-Qaeda has had against us only shows others groups how to do it and encourages them to align with Al-Qaeda. Some of our own actions have only added fuel to this fire.

I am surprised that we have not seen some type of attack in the US since 9-11. I don't believe it is because of the improved security within our country. Attacks on the scale of what is happening in Israel could be carried out on just about a daily basis in this country and there would be very little we could do about it. For this reason I believe that when we do see another attack, by Al-Qaeda, in the US it will be huge.
