Yeah I just came back from my first trip to California. The population is heavily Hispanic alright and seem to be quite mixed with the indigenous native population of Mexico. Lots of brown, just different brown from non white Toronto... Saw very few Indians some oriental, much less asian and black than Toronto, then again I wasn't in the inner city..

While I'm at it:

Realestate in Hermosa Beach is overpriced. Manhattan Beach is worse... That's all I checked..
LA Traffic wasn't any worse than Toronto (yeah I was driving)
LA drivers were no worse than Toronto drivers, nor better... not a compliment... :o) but enough guys that would let you in etc. so that the experience wasn't bad ..
Saw Karen Black on Venice Beach strand ... Karen who LOL...
Saw the guy from Nero Wolfe at the aquarium in Long Beach ... what's Nero Wolfe :o)....
Food in restaurants was good and helpings were way too big on the whole.. no golden arches etc for us..
Oh the food at Universal was crap and overpriced but staff was good and pricing was fair (other than food).
Service was good to excellent most places... and actually staff went out of their way.
My mom lost her wallet and got it back ... with contents intact...
Someone got mugged a block over from my sister's house at gunpoint while she was walking the doggies
Lots of Hispanics in hospitality positions and sales...
Most shops I saw on Venice beach had Oriental owners and Hispanic help..
Most (but not all) of the bums I saw on Venice beach were sun dried whites :o)
Food prices in grocery stores were through the roof on some items... coffee, tea, juice... well forget tea which is mostly crap in the US except for specialty blends.. In general I found food pricey but it's an upper middle class area...
Gas was comparable to Toronto with an equivalent range...
There was all kinds of bilingual signage just like Canada but Spanish instead of French of course..

All in all definitely worth another visit... and most of the above is anecdotal... (the mugging was real :0)

Returning to Canada we got a very funny look from customs and I felt a tad uneasy ... so you're quite a mixed bag I see... family of four... 3 countries of birth and 2 different Canadian provinces, one being the French one :o)
We should have just said we were refugees and skipped all the red tape LOL...

Spots...
