I think we are watching a rough solution in the process of being put together. Maybe. I doubt that it will work, but that would hardly be unusual. "Solutions" in that part of the world generally don't work, especially when they are dictated by one party at the expense of the other. If I had my way I'd split that piece of land in half, put one group on one side and the other on the other, put a full-scale DMZ, Korean style, between them, and promise utter devastation to anybody making a military move against either of the resulting states. Short of nuking the whole place to glass, I can't see any other way of enforcing peace.
