I think part of the problem is an unwillingness to acknowledge that boys are, in fact, very different from girls. Boys and young men are naturally much more aggressive than girls. If that isn't channelled properly it results in destruction, even among the best of kids. "There is a period of time when a boy looks up to his dad as if the dad is a god." And there is a time, if care is not taken, when a boy rebels against his dad, he rebels against everything and everyone. Often this coincides with his discovering that dad is a human being, with the accompanying flaws. Children cannot grow in a moral vacuum.
