The hidden player may be Japan - former colonizer, has Taiwan & PRC integrated with it's production, and has economic leverage.

I can't think of another hidden player.

<<... There appears to be quite a bit of behind-the-scenes domestic as well as geopolitical diplomacy going on ... I believe your are talking about ...>>

... nope, perhaps too obvious and definitely on the surface

<<""Some off-island diplomats must trying to work things out so that there will not be bloodshed on the street.""

I think you are talking about China, US, Pan Blue and Pan Green. May be others as well>>

... Yes, but behind, Yes again, possibly in front, Yes once more, and not really, and then yes again ;0)

<<I do not believe ... Pan Green and Pan Blue should not be the ones to mess up the balance>>

... perhaps wrong, and events sometimes run away when they are going down hill, powered by gravity, from being bad, on way to being worst, through being worse.

<<""Perhaps the solution can be splitting the island ...

... Taiwan has no chance to reach this assumption at all because "Taiwan issue" will be resolved before even reaching that stage.>>

... yes, or rather no, and most assuredly not, or rather yes :0)

<<"""The last time Taiwan was split this way by too-clever-by-half politicians and sheople country bumpkins back so many hundred years ago, the island returned to the warm embrace of the motherland :0)"""

... Time will tell. The balance is there.>>

... Yes, for now, at this very instant, but the equation of time progresses until destiny hits like an asteroid.

<<... No one is willing to break yet>>

... hmmn, possibly one assumption too many; I am not so sure that this is in fact the case; there are plenty on all sides who would want to rock the boat and then break it, and so the possibilities are wide open just now; why else do we find ourselves in this very exciting situation, surely not just because no one is willing to break the balance, or simply because someone is making a wrong calculation.

<<I think Taiwan is OK for now>>

... is one of many possibilities, but perhaps we are already moved quite far from OK already, and that the appointment with destiny is already confirmed and the clockwork is set in motion.

"Rock, rock, rock the boat, merrily down the stream, merrily, merrily, merrily, merrily, merrily down the stream" :0)
