"He's completely forgotten that he did not know these things then." I understand your theory & it may have some merit. However, I think that folks like Clarke fall more into another category. IOW, He's conveniently forgotten that he did not know these things then. There's a lot of that going around in the political arena these days IMO. Heck, even when they get caught in their lies, they just spin it - deny it - ignore it & simply keep telling it.
