Still didn't get a chance to read the article in its entirety but I took the time to read the part you posted.

I was too young to understand the politics of the civil rights movement, or the reality of the struggle. My parents were the most un-racist (if there is such a word?) people one could meet, so accepting everyone as an equal was normal in my world. I grew up in the north.....maybe that explains a lot. And I still don't understand the part the political parties played in that struggle. Why the left dumped the entire guilt package on the shoulders of conservatives is a mystery to me. I've read some history and it seems that it was republicans that fought racism not democrats. I have a lot of reading to do......I'm getting a free education on the Internet.
