I think that's probably on account of the abortion issue.

For the most part the republican party is pandering on that issue, otherwise there would have been a drive to amend the Constitution and overturn Roe vs. Wade.

Some republican politicians are serious about the issue, but most are intent on preserving the status quo, regardless of what they claim on the campaign trail.

Of course another factor is that many democrats treat Christians like aliens from Mars.

Gus, I am one of those church going Americans who has regularly attended an evangelical Protestant church for the past 40 years. I can tell you there are many liberal Democrats in those fundamentalist evangelical churches but they are quiet about their political convictions.
