Where are you going to go that isn't even more liberal than the U.S.?

Maybe the Ukraine, but the food sucks and the people don't bathe often enough.

<<America does swerve right to left, but with each swerve, the center of energy inches leftward.>>

You're right, America and the West in general have been moving to the left. In fact i think you could view the whole of Western Civilization as a move from the Divine Monarchies and absolute property rights (to the extent that people were considered property) to today's social democracies where the power to govern comes from the people below not God above.

If Bush and the Republicans are expanding LBJ's Medicare, what hope does the right really have in terms of the big picture?

<<By that time, I will be out of the country and probably no longer a citizen.>>

God willing! The Christian right will lose one way or another, it's not a tenable position.

You might like Saudi Arabia: no income tax and no gay marriage.

Well, our country is swelling with those willing to partake of the public trough thinking it is FREE. I just dont see how we can afford to do much more. Every time the govt gets involved in anything it is less efficient and more expensive then if private enterprise does the same. I was so hopeful that Bush's Faith Based initiative would take off but the lefties even fought and continue to fight that. Big mistake IMHO. If people somehow feel the govt can EVER afford to offer free healthcare and cradle to grave security as some of the Scandinavian countries do, they are very much mistaken. Instead of being successful it will kill the economy and people will end up as serfs. What this country needs is a thriving economy, "Volume cures all ills". jdn
