<Islamic Militant death cults> You mean the freedom fighters we financed and trained? Great new name for them. How about the "northern alliance" -- sounds much better than "war lord" or "drug lord". Its great to know that we can now buy our heroin from the "northern alliance" -- I hated it when they were just local tyrants, killers and drug dealers. We can almost feel good about being in bed with them now. In Nazi Germany, they would have admired your turn of phrase -- its good to know that propaganda is not a lost art.

I think a more practical solution is hunting down and killing terrorists and suspected terrorists.

Short term, that's a nice solution.. But until you remove the root causes of Islamic militancy, or at least give young Muslim people an alternative vision for their future.

And that can only happen through a long-term and dedicated effort to assisting some measure of economic growth and co-dependency (so business interests will innoculate us from military confrontation).

Killing terrorists is like trying to swat flies next to a stinking carcass.. Sure you kill a few and might even reduce them to annoyance level, but they'll stay around until you remove the corpse... In this case, it's an socio-economic and political corpse.
