Citing Scandinavia as an example, Poole said, those countries are judged by the World Bank to have "among the best institutional arrangements to allow entrepreneurship to thrive," but that a far lower percentage of residents there would prefer to be entrepreneurs.
Poole generally described Americans as much less risk-averse than Europeans.

it is hard to tell whether these "tendencies" represent anything more than self-interest and survival instinct. in Europe, especially Scandinavia, there is after all a socialist safety net to fall back on. but in a plutocratic Brazil-type country like America, which is operated solely for the benefit of the very wealthy, ordinary people have fewer fallback options. thus countries like America and Mexico have lots of "self-employed" beggars and "entrepreneurs" selling Chiclets or foot massages, depending on the environment.

Sometimes a Great Notion: Fed Governor-Speak.

The notion that all these Fed Govs really believe what they're saying is not comforting.

That they lie constantly and are wetting their pants with fear, however...allows me to sleep...
