The long term benefits are obvious to anyone with macroeconomics training.

There is a lot of dissention on this matter from economists. They don't call it comparative advantage anymore, they now call it "global labor arbitrage". As far as I know there aren't many economics courses that specialize in an IP economy and therein lies the rub. Sending expensive IP to china for them to exploit doesn't pass the smell test for me. I think the people defending offshoring of IP and IP jobs are the same ones defending supply side economics which I see as a major ripoff of the taxpayer. So a sortof cultural divide here.
