They worked for Blackwater Security Consulting and were most likely looking for trouble. Interesting: the writer says they were "most likely looking for trouble "...in other words (and how he might purport to know that is anyone's guess) they might not have been...but yet, they "weren't innocent bystanders." Why do you think the writer of this editorial - even setting aside that no credentials or sources of information are contained in the linked page - is expressing certainty in one sentence and pure speculation in the very next? This firm is one of the many nominally private companies doing the US government's dirty work... "[N]ominally private"? "[D]irty work"? You're back to citing editorials as evidence, I guess?...in Iraq and elsewhere around the world where Washington thinks its direct involvement might cause even more problems than that caused by so-called civilians. What's a "so-called civilian"? Like most other firms of this nature, Blackwater (and I quote from their website) "has it roots in the Special Operations community and continues to sustain the skills that have been acquired over the years as effective tools that will support both national and commercial objectives." Absolutely. As it says in the firm's name, security. Special Operations forces are often charged with the defense of dignitaries, embassies, facilities, etc. When they're not polishing their black helicopters, of course. In addition, it maintains offices in McLean, Virginia very near the CIA headquarters. In other words, the men that they hire are trained killers. >>> ROFL! I'll bet McLean also has at least one McDonald's restaurant. Terrifying! But: extrapolating this thought 'process,' should I assume that individuals who grow up in or near of Nashville are necessarily country music fans? ***** Additionally, and finally: civilians on military installations (including mess hall workers, people who work in the commissary and PX, teachers in grade schools and high schools on post, etc.) carry DoD identification. It's how benefits (meals, medical/dental, finance) are tracked and base/post security maintained. One...well, one who cared enough to set aside emotion for facts...would expect DoD contracted individuals - from security to food preparation to language trainers - to have military ID cards. Any questions? LPS5
