is because you don't understand the subtleties of what is being offshored and why. You lump this all into one basket. You also incorrectly assume all engineers overseas don't get options, which is incorrect.

That is really incorrect AmyJ. You are making the kind of arguments that the tech lobby makes wrt options expensing and why we really need more visas (even though valley engineering unemployment is at an all time high) and why we as citizens should consider China intellectual property theft (dovetailing on file swapping for music and movies) as the number one issue facing the USA in this century. After a while all these excuses for what is really a self serving motivation to keep executive salaries up gets old.

As for options I don't think too many people are concerned with China stealing our grossly overpaid execs. The general public once had sympathy for the US engineering workforce, so people like me overlooked the executive options compensation boondoggle in return for the benefits of options used to promote engineering.

Well, we have options right now as of this moment and they are not expensed. We also have companies that are booming and high engineering unemployment and new admissions to engineering schools down 25%. Therefore, options are not helping the engineering situation. That leaves only the executives crying for their own benefit.
