your observation of the exiles is correct, Chalabi is the best bet we could have made early on for a Iraqi self governing council.

he would have been firmly in our camp...

he had a working rapport with the Kurds...

he had a sound relationship with the Shia...

he was able to talk with the Sunni...

he was considered by all a moderate...

he still has many fingers in the pot...

we are developing teams of para military and civil police in all of the major cities of Iraq, it is a monumental task and wrought with death and danger everywhere, we are on the right path considering the alternatives, the rewards are huge and beneficial to USA ultimate goals in the ME and the world.

the average American on the street will have great difficulty seeing thru the everyday BS and TV pictures of the horror of the conflict.

in terms of social change it requires a paradigm shift of thinking for the culture, it will take years, it is generational to begin with, it is very long term but it is required, the entire ME will eventually come around but not in my lifetime or yours.....we have to start somewhere and this is as good a place as any and we got rid of a monster and his offspring in the process....

the loss of American lives in the process both military and civilian is difficult to deal with and requires great tolerance and comprehension to justify...

regards from Chuck on the right

Have you forgotten that just about the entire world believed there were WMD in Iraq. This was the UN belief also.
