The whole thing that gets missed in these discussions of economics is the impact of the bursting of the internet bubble. The market was a tulip type mania. It could not last - and it did not last. Many people were severely hurt financially - they thought they had a free lunch - of course they did not. Then came 9/11 - again - the travel industry was trashed. The fact that we only had a mild recession instead of depression is remarkable.

Going forward there is no honest discussion from the left or right on how to solve the long term financial problems. When one of the candidates tells how they are going to solve SS - and all of the radical changes that will be required - then we will have an honest candidate - and a defeated one.

Bush-Cheney fours years = energy cartel gouging. They lie saying the price spikes are "market driven" but they themselves manipulate the markets. The phony energy crisis during the 2000 campaign showed what they can do when they all gouge together. You should be ashamed trying to help them cover up their gross larceny.
