I read about it in the Washington Post. At that time I had no exposure to "right wing places" and got virtually all my news from the Post. Now, of course, LB gives me lots of exposure to "right wing places." <g>

Moreover, as with any policy, there are going to be over eager administrators who misapply, particularly those who think the proper way to deal with students is to offer more rules and stricter enforcement.

It seems you are viewing this as a matter of administrative process. I look at it more as a matter of cultural standards. I think we erred when we abandoned the "reasonable man" standard for insult and deferred to victims to set the threshold for acceptability. I remember when that question came up for sexual harassment. As a feminist it seemed obvious to rely on women to define what is acceptable, not the cave men who had been the standard setters, and I welcomed the change. In retrospect I see that as a mistake. It was right to dump the good-old-boy paradigm, but a mistake to cast aside balance and encourage a culture of victimization.
