With my DVD combo (Plextor + Roxio CD & DVD Creator) I can drop files across network and burn on the DVD. Of course an empty or partial filed DVD must be in burner.

You must not have been doing it right. What is a PIA about dragging files from one folder to another? That is what you do to move files from one machine to another if you have a network.

If you prefer using the Laplink application, you can still use it - as you mentioned - using your network - no need to use the serial cable.

File synchronization is built-in to Windows XP. The concept is a bit backwards to what you might think, though. You can designate that a folder on a different machine is to be cached on the local machine. There are various options for how it syncs (one-way or two-way? Continuously or at log-in and/or log-out?) Really handy for notebooks.
