Re: U.S. as a "big tent" nation--the troglodytes who use a
racial or ethnic template to dismiss people are a small minority throughout this nation, in my experience. Yet it is also true that most U.S. citizens, being sentient adults with some life experience, can't help but take note of typical or average work ethic, value system and social integration of immigrants of all races and ethnicities. This redounds to the benefit--not detriment--of Asian immigrants in dealing with U.S. citizens who respect a solid value system, hard work and devotion to family. There are obvious exceptions, such as among groups competing with new Asian immigrants and resisting the ensuing realignment of their own employment prospects.

Despite what I see (in the well-educated and prosperous part of U.S. society) as a frequent (intellectual) bias in favor of Asians, and their social acceptance, it remains true that Americans typically judge individuals one-on-one. So if an Asian immigrant or visitor espouses alien values, particularly political ones, she will sense friction. The less she is able to question her own received truths, and the more stridently she puts them forth, the more she might see her reception as the result of racial or cultural bias. Such an explanation excuses self-examination, and ignores other factors.
