In a very sick way, 9/11 was a piece of performance art. In the eyes of his admirers, OBL is the greatest "terror" artist to ever live, so far. I'm sure other ambitious terrorists are planning to grab his crown even now, with American-destroying horror to make 9/11 look small time (nuke an American city with a Pakistani bomb). In elevating OBL (as Bush did), we've created an exemplar for every terrorist alive. If we catch him and kill him, he'll just be a worshipped martyr by millions worldwide. The Bush "strategy" is a total reactive failure.

Alot goes into the creation of someone like OBL. Ronald Reagan said, " One man's freedom fighter is another man's terrorist". What he actually is, depends on where you live. OBL claimed that Allah guided the planes into the WTC...........Bush claimed that God had him elected to take out Saddam...............both are sick men who caused the deaths of many innocent people. I do think that the failed foreign policy over many decades help create OBL. The support by the US of men like Saddam and the former Shah of Iran was probably a contributing factor. The support of the US for the monarchs in the Middle East is another factor...............the thirst for oil and our growing need to control the world's oil fields has caused this country to prostitute ourselves. The violence and death that always ensues helped to create more hatred and the dance continued. We sold arms and WMD's to Israel in violation of UN laws. The Arab countries couldn't compete with the military weaponry so they invented a type of warfare that leveled the playing field...........terrorism. Many other factors contributed as well. The complex situation couldn't have been derived from a simple and single root. The US is a contributing factor but not the only cause. Many other forces came into play like the different sects of Moslems and their different religious views. Instead of killing each other, the US made itself a great big target and instead of killing each other, the Islamic fundamentalists took aim at the US which had made itself a great big target. Everytime you drop a bomb and kill someone's loved one you make an enemy..........if you kill someone's family you make a crazed enemy who will go to no lengths for revenge. We now have a growing number of Moslems that are looking for revenge and they can't buy F-16's, Howitzers and Sherman tanks. They have already lost everything so they don't fear death. JMHO

what, in your opinion, created the hatred that fueled 9/11? In 1990 the lies of Bush Sr. about massive tank formations poised to invade Saudi Arabia damaged the credibility of the U.S. much like Bush Jr.'s WMD lies. OBL and friends used the skills and resources that the CIA helped form to try and push the U.S. out of his homeland. Then as now, it was all about the oil.
