Of course it's a silly way to get it too- a shorthand, that loses all the nuance, and gives you only one flawed man's vision of something that is terribly complex. Well, that's the heart of the problem with so much of what the general public believes to be "the truth" about other lands, other cultures, and other religions these days. It's ironic that many people don't even know much about their own cultural histories, but then think they are experts on world affairs -- and then, to make matters worse, follow through by acting on their lack of knowledge and critical analysis. The "result" of this kind of un-thinking is becoming horrific. I can't even begin to tell you how frightening I believe the latest turn in developments in global affairs has become over the past couple of days.
