10:03AM New York Times gains on BofA upgrade (NYT) by Tomi Kilgore
NEW YORK (CBS.MW) -- Shares of New York Times (NYT) rose 78 cents, or 1.7 percent, to $46.23 after Banc of America upgraded the newspaper publisher, citing evidence that national advertising growth was accelerating. Analyst John Janedis upped his rating to "buy" from "neutral," and bumped up his 2004 and 2005 earnings forecasts to $2.03 and $2.25 a share, respectively, from $2.01 and $2.22. He has a $50 price target on the stock. Janedis also sees "significant" sequential improvement in help wanted ads, a turnaround in the entertainment category, and is anticipating a rebound in the real estate category. "We would be buyers of the stock ahead of the first quarter earnings release on April 12," Janedis said in a note to clients.
