Freedom is the whole issue. Conceptually this is a big difference between Christianity and Islam. While I am a Christian, it cannot be denied that Catholicism became very corrupt in the Middle Ages. I think there is a balance between religion and secular. When anything becomes too powerful problems begin developing.
