Let's not forget that the US fought a bloody civil war to keep the country united. The idea of breaking up iraq looks to be part of the neo-con "divide and conquer" strategy.

Just curious.
Ignoring other outside parties (countries), do you think Taiwan formal independence should be decided by Taiwan?

It should probably include at least the Vilayets of Basra, Bagdad, and Mosul. And the Southern Kurds and Assyrians might well be linked up with Mesopotamia. Or has it always been about oil ? naw!
theworld.org
Said Aburish: The agreement between the British and Iraq regarding the rights to the oil of the country is one of the most criminal documents I have ever read in my life. It is aimed at keeping Iraq in the dark ages.
OR
Jeb Sharp: Much of the subsequent horsetrading had to do with oil. Under the original agreement, the French were supposed to get the province of Mosul in the north of Iraq. But the British began to suspect there was oil there and backpedalled on that part of the deal. Reluctantly the French let Mosul go. But only on condition they get a share of any future oil revenues.
