America has a long history of advocating free trade, and, despite the claims of many, has been a free trade country throughout most of its history. When America has strayed from the path of free trade, the result has been economic hardship. Yet America today is on the brink of reviving protectionist policies that have failed in the past. The consequences would be all too predictable: lower living standards for all Americans, higher levels of unemployment, more business bankruptcies, and lingering economic decay.

Myth 1.......the above paragraph. America always has been protectionist........more so before WW II than after. That afforded our industries time to grow up and mature. Does protectionism cause economic hardship.......possibly but its a small contributor. There are many other factors that are more important.

Myth 2........if we eliminate our trade barriers, things would get better economically. Total BS........things will only get better if every country removed their trade barriers..........and the world was a complete free trade market.

When that happens, we can talk about the disadvantages to having trade barriers.
