Consumer prices in Asia are rising, reports the WSJ -The rise is due to the increase in global commodity prices and may bring inflation back to the U.S. and elsewhere. Consumer price inflation has risen recently even though it is still very low by historical standards. Rob Subbaraman of Lehman Brothers says that broad inflationary pressures are beginning to build in the region. Many companies have been loath to raise prices but feel they can longer postpone doing so. SNE recently raised the price of lithium batteries by around 10% due to the cost of cobalt. Henry Willmore of Barclays Capital believes the odds are greater than 50% that Asia-inspired inflation will pick up markedly in the U.S. over the next year. --bloomberg.com
