The "misery index" was invented by Reagan to show how poorly Carter was performing. There is nothing special about the way Reagan calculated the index.

Kerry's index is a "misery index" for the middle class. Kerry's numbers are accurate.

if the misery index is really at a near record low now then it needs to be reconstructed because there is clearly misery out there. Lou Dobbs reports on it every day and his ratings are high and going higher.
