But it certainly given Arabs the right to assert that the US has lost it's "honest broker" status.

So what else is new? And Bush has his answer ready: "Look, I'm the first US President to openly back a Palestinian state. That too was never done by Clinton. But I want a peaceful, non-corrupt Palestinian state, so I demanded some move towards democratic reform and law & order - a move greatly desired by the vast majority of the Palestinians themselves. And what cooperation did I get? From the Palestinian Authority, or from you? None, right? In case you guys have not yet gotten the message, business as usual in the Middle East ended for me on Sept 11, 2001. No more running to me to demand that I put out the Israeli/Pal bonfire that you all are pouring gasoline over behind the scenes. I'm not playing that game anymore."

And I wasn't impressed that he didn't mention any of this to Hosni Mubarak. That will leave Mubarak in a very exposed political position

First, who says he didn't, and second, exposed to whom? what is his opposition? We just gave Mubarak a HUGE present, the names of all the Saddamite agents in his government. The least he can do in return is not obstruct the effort to free the logjam now.
