I think we have lost the meaning of war and are pussyfooting around because of a fear that this conflict will be generally viewed as a West vs Savage, “Lord of the Rings” contest. Of course that is precisely what it is. The muslims know it, admit it outright and accordingly are out to destroy all Westerners, whether they are soldiers or relief workers. They are not hampered at all by the silly little rules that threaten to destroy the American effort. This entire matter can be ended efficiently. In fact, had it occurred in 1940, it would have been in the history books by now. I have said it many times here. If we are going to pull triggers, we need to be serious about pulling triggers. The “shock and awe” goofy Rumsfeld promised but failed to deliver should have happened. It should be happening right now. Here is the shock that terrorists understand: If terrorists wish to use mosques as shields, they are responsible when we level their mosques. The same applies to civilians who will not flee the region or who are unable to flee because they are being held by the terrorists. When terrorists are captured, they are automatically pumped for information and then killed. Geneva does not apply here because these are not soldiers. They are terrorists. To effect this, the press ought to be removed from the country immediately and all reports leaking outside vigorously surrounded by propaganda. This is not a stand up war where soldiers on both sides agree that civilians ought not be intentionally targeted. Again, we are dealing with terrorists here. That means it is going to be ugly however we approach it. America needs to make certain that the ugliness is felt much more on the enemy’s side than on the American side. Once the press is forbidden, all media outlets need to understand that should they refuse to abide by the rules and leave the country, they are likely to be destroyed. It should be a matter of very public knowledge so no one is surprised when media people are found ripped to shreds. I also think, for future wars of this sort, we need to better employ technology. An entire War Department should be created by in part diverting current resources toward the effort of developing systems that will help us mark and track an entire city population. That technology is coming whatever we do. We may as well test it first on orcs. With this sort of system in place, hiding would become very difficult indeed.
