That's great post, JDN, an honest one. I hope someone responds to it thoughtfully.

The problem in Iraq has much to do with the fact we are trying to impose democracy t the point of a gun. It will be counter productive. We lost world support when e went there instead of pursuing al queda and stabilizing afghan. Iraq is the worst of all things a political conflict. Blame the prez.

If there truly is no "good Islam", Iraq and the countries around it will have to be exterminated. Surrender is not an option.

The "good Islam" has, so far, failed to show itself. Bush can be forgiven for giving them every last chance. Then-if it's a waste of time-it all comes down to a very stark choice:

Kerry would cede power to the UN, and Islam would run wild, murdering in America and the West for another 2 decades.

Whereas Bush will do what's necessary, and the Middle East will glow in the dark for 2 decades.

Given the massive implications of that historical turning point, we are spending only pocket change in blood and treasure...

I agree completely. I think we have lost the meaning of war and are pussyfooting around because of a fear that this conflict will be generally viewed as a West vs Savage, “Lord of the Rings” contest. Of course that is precisely what it is. The muslims know it, admit it outright and accordingly are out to destroy all Westerners, whether they are soldiers or relief workers. They are not hampered at all by the silly little rules that threaten to destroy the American effort. This entire matter can be ended efficiently. In fact, had it occurred in 1940, it would have been in the history books by now.

I have said it many times here. If we are going to pull triggers, we need to be serious about pulling triggers. The “shock and awe” goofy Rumsfeld promised but failed to deliver should have happened. It should be happening right now. Here is the shock that terrorists understand: If terrorists wish to use mosques as shields, they are responsible when we level their mosques. The same applies to civilians who will not flee the region or who are unable to flee because they are being held by the terrorists. When terrorists are captured, they are automatically pumped for information and then killed. Geneva does not apply here because these are not soldiers. They are terrorists.

To effect this, the press ought to be removed from the country immediately and all reports leaking outside vigorously surrounded by propaganda. This is not a stand up war where soldiers on both sides agree that civilians ought not be intentionally targeted. Again, we are dealing with terrorists here. That means it is going to be ugly however we approach it. America needs to make certain that the ugliness is felt much more on the enemy’s side than on the American side. Once the press is forbidden, all media outlets need to understand that should they refuse to abide by the rules and leave the country, they are likely to be destroyed. It should be a matter of very public knowledge so no one is surprised when media people are found ripped to shreds.

I also think, for future wars of this sort, we need to better employ technology. An entire War Department should be created by in part diverting current resources toward the effort of developing systems that will help us mark and track an entire city population. That technology is coming whatever we do. We may as well test it first on orcs. With this sort of system in place, hiding would become very difficult indeed.

We had no war with these people to begin with. "politics are entering" You forgetting that this WAR is now all about installing DEMOCRACY in Iraq?
I guess you think you'd make quite the military administrator. Kids would be throwing rocks at you from the get-go, cause this "kill 'em, if they can't see we're good for 'em," doesn't work.
The military occupation of Germany & Japan worked because we had won a real war, i.e. we killed millions before they capitulated.
I guess you think we oughta get started?

You've captured my thoughts, also, JDN. Politics be damned! Do it or, retreat to fortress America. But we can't let the Islamic terrorists and the Kerryites win, beginning today.

Unfortunately, the left wing media is battling for our defeat with their constant din of losses and no successes, and they are winning. They have had previous experience in how to shape mens minds by the defeat in Vietnam they engineered. You know about 'Nam. Remember? We won the Tet battle, the North was finished, but the NY Times, and others, including John Fonda Kerry, the same ones we hear today, said it was a horrible loss for us and we retreated. Shame

I'll go one further than you did. I think they are TRUE COWARDS for hiding behind their religion.

If the shoe were on the other foot you can be sure they would follow us right into any church we went into. That's the difference between them and us. We won't hide behind our religious beliefs and churches/whatever.
