GS US SEMI EQUIPMENT WEEKLY: MARKET SHARE, PHILLIPS CAPEX AND THE WEEK AHEAD

Summary: (1) Gartner Dataquest's market share breakdown highlights that Japanese
equipment vendors gained share in 2003 as the Japanese chipmakers drove the early
stages of the cyclical recovery, (2) Philips Electronics indicated in meetings last
week that its initial 2005 semi capex looks to be relatively unchanged from 2004
capex of $600 million, (3) March book-to-bill (released Monday night after the
close) expected to remain flat at 1.14 on 5% m-m shipment and order growth, (4)
Expect more choppy data points during earnings reports this week from KLAC and
TER with ATMI and FORM relatively more upbeat, and (5) News, events and price
performance.
