If it's not network quality, why do you think that Reliance only added 400,000 subscribers during March while the GSM carriers added 1.5 million?

I'm sure it is current network quality... my objection is to the idea of "damage" done in perpetuity by year one teething.

BSNL and Bharti are particularly entrenched. Reliance is aiming for 30% of new subs this year, with plenty of prepaid.

Hey... could be Ambani is pulling an Ebbers. They are currently selling off 10% of the company for over $1.5 billion. That values Infocomm at nearly triple what it was worth 2 years ago. Have to think about accounting for all that startup expense vs. positive cash flow claimed this year.

edit: re: Unicom, I get the impression that the government has disallowed the kind of capex and subsidization the company needs to improve the network and compete successfully. Very disappointing to date.
