My problem? None, I would be happy to discuss such a solution.

Apparently Sharon isn't... He's already stated that these settlements would be Israeli territory. Non-negotiable, except to final borders.

However, that presumes that you are dealing with a civilized Palestinian leadership willing to discuss citizenship and protection for minorities, and this is not the case.

And now you won't get one either.. Because Sharon's decision will empower Hamas and the other miltants to carry on their struggle.

That's the saddest part of this... This decision has essentially sealed the fate of any Palestinian moderates and locked them into an endless cycle that will never be broken.

It is the Palestinians who demand that Palestine be completely Judenrein, and everybody acquiesces. Somehow 'ethnic cleansing' is not a word that can be applied to Palestinians.

I don't acquiese to that.. So it's not everyone.

In fact, I'm one of the people who believe that both Israel and Palestine need to be be tolerant of one another's religious beliefs and historical claim to the region..

And I also know that without external pressure on both sides, if not direct intercession, the odds of preventing "ethnic cleansing" by either side increases.

After all, what's to stop some extremist government to tell Israeli Arabs to forcibly be moved to Palestine?

Once again, your proposed solution takes no account of the people involved or the realities on the ground.

And once again, your narrow perspective on Israel's situation procludes you from seeing how this continue confrontation is enraging muslims through the mid-east and drawing recruits to militant causes.

I thought the US strategy was to, over time, deflate the power of the militants by creating an alternative political and economic model for them to adopt...

Israel's strategy seems hell-bent upon enraging an entire region against them by creating the conditions of perpetual hatred and warfare against them (by retaining these settlements).... and they're only too happy to drag the US right along with them.
