So Dale, what do you think the solution is in the ME? I'm not sure we can expect any of the sides to act reasonably, so what do we do? Let them fight it out forever, I guess. I don't think the US should intervene in internal civil wars, or intractable conflicts- and the ME is an intractable conflict, imo.

I don't think what happens to Israel, or any other country, should drive US policy. What is best for the US should drive US policy- and what is best for the US does not dovetail with what is best for Israel (imo). We should treat Israel like any other country, and be done with it. My solution is about the US, and not about Israel (and I might add I don't care what religion anyone is, I just don't like senseless entanglements).

Amazing how debates about the Middle East always go on endlessly, make everyone mad, rarely produce any consensus and always start again later from scratch, as if nothing had ever been discussed before.

Isn't that true about everything? One of the few useful features of the internet, other than access to pornography, is the ability to argue with total strangers about anything and everything, without ever conceding defeat or acknowledging the merits of your opponent's position.

Take that away, and all that is left is the porn.
