Let me make it clearer--for you specifically: The whole moral basis of American culture stems from a repudiation of many biblical concepts of morality and the substitution of humanistic/rational dicta. Thus we recognize women as having equal rights and we condemn slavery. We don't torture "confessions" out of people that they are in alliance with the King of Evil...and so forth and so fifth.

The rules of right and wrong which inform a society are predicated on the philosophical structure which serves that society. In ancient times it was tribal self interest and tribal survival. It was "good" to kill every last man of the "enemy" tribes (and all but the young girls for rape and marriage) because they had no human value. Through the centuries of church oppression (in particular Catholic and Islamic) it was "good" to torture and kill those who worshipped a different God or those who just wanted to avoid the stupidity of the whole damn business. And of course in the present day we must babysit them all as they murder one another to prove their virtue in fighting for the "Holy Places".

Human Beings decide what is moral. And religious people have their own opinions, of course. With luck and proper leadership, they can generally be allowed out after dark.
