Michal, I agree that the macro features of the D70 using the kit lens...

...are not very impressive. There is no macro setting on the lens itself, which I am
accustomed to from my Minolta X-700 lens (28-70). I have both macro and supermacro
features on my Olympus C-5050 which practically allow you to focus upto the lens surface
itself. The focal length for this image is 11mm...

The autofocus on the D70 will not work if you have a center-weighted algorithm and the
object falls within the focal length of the lens. If you are using another focusing
algorithm I suspect the camera will focus on the nearest possible image. This probably
leads to the "back focusing" phenomenon. It would be obvious to the user that the subject
in question is not focused based on the appearance of the subject in the viewfinder.
