It would be obvious to the user that the subject in question is not focused based on the appearance of the subject in the viewfinder.

Thanks Aus, kinda figured as much. Still, a bit surprising for this level of gear. I wouldn't expect it to need babysitting. Will keep an eye on this discussion; got Nikon buddies pining for the D70...
