Palestine was really part of Syria (the southern province) and the Capital was and is Damascus.

Since when? The fall of the Ottoman Empire?

Damascus, depending on the period of history one wishes to refer to, has been the capital of many different parts of the Arab world, including the seat of the Caliph..

Which means we could theoretically claim that Damascus is the capital of the Arabian peninsula.

But listen... I would concur that Jordan is effectively a "Palestinian state"... But we all know the international community, let alone the Hashemite rulership, are unwilling to acknowledge that fact.

So we're stuck with trying to create another Palestinian "homeland" in order to pacify militant muslim influences.

So, personally speaking, all of this discussion as to what constitutes a historical capital or national entity is beside the point. We all know that borders are arbitrary and shift with whoever might be governing at a particular moment in time.

But I certainly understand the argument.. I've made the same comments about Jordan in the past. But the reality is that the region is more stable with the Hashemites in charge than it might be with a Palestinian leadership.

So if we have to give the Palestinians a "homeland" at the expense of political Israeli settlements that shouldn't have been built in the first place, then so be it. But the price must be the decrease in Islamic militantcy in the overall region.
