Manuals for urban warfare have been wholly rewritten since World War II, when the military dealt with well-defended cities by using heavy artillery, intense firebombing and, twice over Japan, even atomic weapons to level cities.

This is ridiculous... The Manuals for Urban Conflict WERE WRITTEN during WWII... Such campaigns as Aachen, Brest, Metz.. etc..

I suggest that the author of that article read "Closing with the Enemy" by Michael Doubler (who I onced worked with).

Hi Bilow:

Sometimes I wonder whether you get a true picture of what is happening in Iraq and Afghanistan.

The President is sworn to defend this country, There is an enemy that needs to be fought, and looking at history you will notice that we seldom fight on our own soil. That saves many civilian lives and costly damage and provides the capability of producing whatever is needed from time to time
to save our allies, such as France or the UK.

So this war is being fought in Iraq and Afghanistan, not in
Chicago or the streets of NYC. It was our choice to do that, rather than let terrorists grab another airliner and have to shoot it down over one of our cites.

You complain about the killing, them and us- which implies you prefer to eliminate our Military. And not even Kerry is foolish enough to propose doing that.

One of the first things a soldier does is learn to use a gun. Some just small, but mostly bigger stuff . These guns are designed to hurt people, real bad, purposely so that a$$holes who are shooting back never get a chance to come over here and kill US civilians or teach us a new language.

Alltogether the last three wars have cost the US less than 1000 casualties -and that is not good enough for you? - we are losing?

You are too damn hard to please
