When Israel was created it was given land land that had belonged to the Palestinians for generations before the Jewish state was created. That started the disagreement and fueled the hate. Many people who had held the land for generations lost it to the Israelis.

Then a vicious cycle of violence fueled hatred on both sides which has escalated.
