About a month ago the NYT Book Review had an article on the last page discussing the history of the book, "Holy Blood, Holy Grail.
It's a complete fabrication. There have been many articles in France and Britain on it. There was also BBC documentary.
A man now dead was responsible though I forget why.
It's an urban myth that refuses to die.
The better question is why it's so appealing to so many people.
Controvrsy moving from Europe to America.

I read his "Angels & Demons" in one sitting, it was really good read. It is written in almost real-time, only a few hours pass from the time it starts till it ends.

It is set in the Vatican and has a lot of good historical stuff in it. I don't buy the conspiracy angle, but he knows how to tell a story. If I remember correctly his wife is an art history person.
