<<As Americans learn that the real issue here is for Iraqi's to decide which of the mullahs will be running Iraq next year there will be many more in the US who ask why we shed so much blood to turn Iraq into the next illiberal theocracy. >>

The people that count in America have already learned enough to know we are in a war where its us versus them, the terrorists.

Iraq is just one part of that, and it is important to conduct ourseleves in a manner that means business, that our word is good, that those who oppose us and try to destroy us will be met with force.

If 911 was not convincing, try the trains in Spain, the embassies in Turkey, the buildings in Saudi Arabia, The Restuarants in Bali, and many more.

We prefer a Democracy in Iraq, but they will get what they want provided it does not lead to a country that crushes human rights, creates a civil war, or that uses oil for blackmail.

When the voice of the people, vested in Congress, turns against the Administration then the funding will cease, and perhaps alternate routes will be chosen.

In one way these terrorists can do nothing right- they are a bunch of losers.

They tried to blow up the pipelines, and we cut them off.

They tried to destroy the electric power systems and the water supplies and they failed- Those are up and running.

They attacked our troops and we moved out of town where they could not get at us.

They tried to destroy the oil port facilities, and they failed.

In desperation they kidnapped foreign workers and proved to the world they are inhuman savages.

Now their actions are getting their own citizens killed.

At this rate their next step should be a suicide pact, and they may just have done that by challenging our Marine Corp to a street duel in Falllugha.

Any move in the direction of moderation is a net gain. If there is not adequate democratic participation, nevertheless, I am confident there will be improvement, and I think that the American people will regard it in the same way.
