Actually, I don't think that past "losses" as you describe
them are animating the current situation.

Iraq is not Vietnam or similar to it, though it's
a facile comparison and makes for good sound bytes.

The propaganda techniques are the same, though.
The enemy is trying to win here in our streets.
Because it is an election year, there's a good
chance of success with that technique. Partisanship
is rampant. Some on the left actually appear to be
pulling for ignominious defeat. It sure seems that
way anyway.

If we abdicate Iraq to the insurgents, the battleground for the War on Terror returns to the USA. Do you prefer that scenario?
