I don't think pragmatism justifies abandoning it.

I think 2 Trillion dollars in the hands of 500 men and women overpowers all principle.

And the result is that he has lent credence to centralized government programs and centralized control, something that used to be anathema to conservatives. The genie is now out of the bottle. I don't know how we recover from that.

The concept is supposed to be, "OK, we have to have programs for health, but lets write them so that they end up privatized or run by the states." The compromises keep killing it.

As an aside, the new Drug program went on line yesterday. I am not affected but I took a look. They are selling cards for discounts on drugs. The first check through shows you can buy the drugs from on-line pharmacies for the same price without paying $30 for the card. This according to several surveys I read. About what I expected.

The Pork, like the road program, keep all of them at the trough. The only hope I can see is if the Republicans get control of 60 Senate votes. And even then the desire to spend on programs won't quit.
