>> Well apparently you've never served in the US military

As in most of what you say, you are wrong in this, too.

>> But please don't claim that all soldiers are directed to disobey lawful orders.

You are again ignoring that the General in charge of the prison said these acts were by direction of MI who had exclusive control of those areas. And an MP said he asked a Lt. Colonel in charge, who told him: "don't worry about it." This is the one soldier who apparently sent letters to his family exposing the situation. He said he would try to leave the room when this was happening.

>> As for why the evidence of these atrocities was not released earlier, that's the way investigations are conducted (or should be).

I have a different view. I think they wanted to suppress it. This is known since November '03. It doesn't take 6 months to figure out there is torture in the prison. And I bet you it was still going on till Thursday, and maybe still going on now. Are they letting the red-cross in there ? I have to be kidding, right!

I'll ask you again, do you think that is why the resistance fighters don't surrender willingly anymore ? And how many US soldiers will be killed to avenge this policy ? Eleven more were killed today. And for what ? So Bush can keep saying the wmd will be found someday ?
