That is not the information I responded to. I quoted the paragraph I was responding to. However, I do see your point and it has some merit, although over stated. What is needed to improve its validity is for you to make some attempt to acknowledge the complexity of the situation.

It is true that not all of the interests the USA has pursued in Iraq have been in the best interests of the Iraqis, historically; and, it is true that mistakes, although well intentioned, have occurred. It is true that there is an aspect of 'Its the economy stupid' consciousness about the whole thing...our economy that is. So, I don't buy the savior role as the only motive in liberating the culture toward more of a self-ruling government.

You know very well that the American people (especially people from your perspective) would never have supported American involvement beyond the gulf war episode in the early 90's. So, to put excessive fault on Bush 41 for not pursuing military involvement is disengenuous.

The Iraqi people have not been self-determining in recent decades. Nor would it be likely in the future without serious intervention. No one but the US has stepped up to the task. The Iraqi people have been at the mercy of a heinously criminal regime for decades and their cultural world perspective has been tainted as a result.

We are now committed and have put the future stability of our society on the line to see this thing through to the end. Everyone in the world has a stake in it. To couch it in a 'Bush' conspiracy is ridiculous and only beneficial to political agendas. You and I both see how well that flies when you push it out side of this little cult gathering of extremists...right?
