If one has adaware and spyware does one need the firewall for the SASSER Worm.

Thanks

Hi guys,

Well, it seems that one of my PCs, using cable, has picked up the Sasser virus as well as a couple more. The PC uses Norton Anti Virus, so I used the approved Symantec method to get rid of it. That seemed to work OK.

However, something I am sure is related did not get fixed. Internet Explorer can no longer reach www.symantec.com. I confirmed this by trying to run LiveUpdate and it did not connect either. Further, I installed Netscape and it could not connect either. I figured the likeliest candidate would be a rewritten "hosts" file but that wasn't it either. I then did a complete "over the top" install of Windows XP but no change. So, of course, this means that Norton Anti Virus can no longer update virus definitions until this is fixed.

I hooked up my laptop using the same cable and it connects fine with www.symantec.com

Tonight, I scoured the Symantec website trying to get an idea but there is nothing mentioned.

Any ideas out there? TIA
