Mi Lai was just the exposed tip of the Vietnam atrocity iceberg. We left, and didn't have the stomach to prosecute any more. It was a war most Americans wanted to forget, and that ordinary American soldiers participated in killing women and children in free fire zones was something we wanted to deny. It happened. It ALWAYS happens. It happened in WWII. It's a characteristic of war, especially geurrila wars, like we're in now.
