In fact, I think Bush should probably appear in a national address and make an apology for the apparent abuses that took place there.. (within bounds of not compromising any particular investigation or trial).

Hawk

If you've noticed, Bush doesn't apologize for anything. In fact, he can't think of a single mistake that he's made. Maybe one of his handlers will help him with that one.

At this point, I really believe that those who support this clown are doing so out of pride, having been embarrassed at having made such a mistake of judgment.

He was on TV this morning doing just that.

Hi Hawkmoon; Re: "Rumsfeld stated that we were treating the Guantanamo detainees as IF the Geneva convention applied, not that stating that it actually did."

I never said the Geneva Convention applied to the various prisoners. I suppose you assumed that I would think that, but that is not the case. I quoted the Geneva Convention because that is the level of treatment that we hold ourselves to.

That's a level of treatment that was of sufficient importance that our President just went on Arab TV to apologize for it. So your sitting there and making excuses for it doesn't cut a lot of mustard.

You seem to have a need to find a legal loophole that allows whatever bad behavior our side manages to find itself doing. First there was the fact that the UN did not authorize a war, a simple and quite obvious fact that you still repeatedly and vociferously deny. (Wait for your CAPITAL RIDDEN post in response to this, LOL.) Then there was the existence of WMDs, and the nature of "imminent threat" or whatever phrase was used. And now you post more garbage apparently attempting to muddy the waters. Who gives a good Goddamn whether or not the Geneva Convention applies (according to International law). When did you ever become some sort of respecter of international law, or an expert on it?

The simple fact is that the Geneva Convention applies because of public statements by our leaders and by very easy to understand US military doctrine.
