Hi Lizzie, the job reports will probably be quite good.

Suddenly am hearing about a thousand job recs that may be opened in Silicon Valley from a wide variety of companies - all these positions are in emerging communication technology areas.

AG should raise interest rates sooner rather than later, so the economy doesn't get too hot if it takes a solid year before interest rates have an impact.

Do you know if there are a lot of folks still unemployed here in the Valley? Don't know of anyone in comm that's unemployed anymore, but IEEE says there are a lot of local engineers unemployed. Maybe IEEE might be a good place to find experienced engineers. There are probably a lot of unfortunate people laid off from companies fallen due to some of the former telco ceo's.

Met the ceo of a new, so-called "hot" comm startup this week. A total throw-back from the dotcom days. Oozing and gushing. Definitely not a Mr. Gloom.

Hope they do well, if only for the entertainment factor of watching his personality type. His company will either blow up or do wildly well, but it certainly won't simply do okay. Wanted to ask him, where did folks like you actually go during the bust? Maybe vacation? Next time I see him, am going to ask. Am curious about such people, since us overly austere people seem to be the only ones left from this rather austere downturn. Where did the other types go during this bust?

They always seem to come out when the going starts to get good. You ever notice some people are like that? Good at showing up at the right time. Whereas, folks like us seem to suffer through it all. Oh well, at least we have persistence. That counts for something, for sure.

The pres of a partnering company of theirs offered to buy our company out. They are ebita postive, but time will tell if they will blow up or do wildly well.

On another note, there's an Intel VP in India that recently quit to start a company. He's a creative type that's pretty good. He's coming back to Silicon Valley to launch it. Too bad Intel lost him. They should work harder on retaining people.

Re: your oracle lawsuit post

They must have lost the lawsuit, because companies no longer do that. Accelerated vesting if it's only a month away, can be cheaper than a lawsuit. Monthly vesting schedules are common so as to avoid such legal issues as well as the ethics of such a situation.

RE: Private London

The female soldier that was sexually torturing Iraqi prisoners, is free. The govt found her guilty, but they didn't criminally charge her.

The military govt simply "reprimanded her with a reassignment to the USA." I'm extremely upset by this, because by letting her off the hook, this seriously hurts America's image overseas, in addition to it being obviously extremely unethical behavior that should be punished. If another part of the USA government doesn't ensure she is criminally prosecuted, this could put all American women at higher risk when traveling internationally due to this horrible image. Wonder if Congress can intervene and step up enforcement here?

I find it hard to believe Bush would not want to see her punished for her crime. It makes me wonder what is wrong with our system, when the President cannot even ensure the criminals he wants to see get prosecuted will get prosecuted. Something is seriously broke with the system and procedures, if a President of a country can't ensure justice is served. Doesn't a President have the authority to fire anyone in any deptartment, even at the entry levels? Or, is there some type of bureaucracy that prevents it and protects criminal behavior such as this Private London's conduct?

Corporations let presidents fire people anywhere in an organization, so why shouldn't our govt?

Regards,
Amy J
